C’est L’halloween!

So I’ve come to realize that there are parts of the world that don’t celebrate Halloween (or Hallowe’en for the purists).  Personally I really like Halloween.  Scary stories, costumes, candy…  What’s not to like?

It was great trick-or-treating when I was younger, but as you get older you stop going door to door.  Of course, once you get older you can start going to Halloween parties, which can be just as fun, and you can buy your own candy.

As a kid I loved scary stories, movies and tv shows.  Once I became too old to trick-or-treat I used to stay home and watch YTV (a Canadian  kid’s television channel).  We had awesome shows like Are You Afraid Of The Dark“, Freaky Stories and Goosebumps, and YTV played a marathon of episodes on Halloween night.

Recently I re-discovered “Are You Afraid Of The Dark” on Youtube.  I watched 4 videos in one evening (surprised by the star-power in them – they’re all so young!).  And yes, it’s cheesy but it’s fun.  A group of kids sitting around a fire telling scary stories that they wrote.  It made me want to write scary stories.

If you’re looking for something a bit more mature, check out any horror franchise – “Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Friday the 13th”.  Or watch some Halloween-themed movies like “Donnie Darko”, “Idle Hands”, “Halloween”, or “Trick R Treat”.  There’s something fun about scaring yourself silly.

So on Halloween (once you’re too old to trick-or-treat) feel free to buy some candy, don a costume, and watch something scary.
