The Oxford Theatre

Last week I went to the Oxford Theatre for the first time.  I went to see “The Grand Seduction” – a movie set in Newfoundland and re-made from a French movie of the same name (only French).  Not only did I want to see this movie, due to the Newfoundland connection, I also wanted to visit this theatre.

The Oxford Theatre is a single screen movie house (and now owned by Cineplex).  Being a single screen it means that it doesn’t have as much choice as other theatres, and it usually has less commercial shows.  They also show old favorites, and sometimes have 2 different shows a day.

One screen to rule them all.

Even though other theatres have had renovations to make them more comfortable, they can’t compare to the look of the Oxford.  A giant screen flanked by 2 statues, and a balcony…  It’s a pretty cool place to watch a movie.

Lots of legroom in the balcony.

It’s also got some really nice details.

If you get the chance to see a movie here, I’d say go for it.
